Address Safety Lookup: Plan the Night with Your Crew
An address safety lookup helps you review nearby activity before visiting a venue, plan your arrival and coordinate check-ins with friends.
Check the place out
Type the venue, cross streets, or address. Crew runs the same intelligence check the app uses and shows the matched spot on a map. Confirm the pin is the place you meant before reading anything else.
Incident coverage includes selected Montgomery County, Maryland criminal offenses and Buffalo, New York police reports where sufficient nearby records are available. Locations are approximate; reports are preliminary and may be incomplete. Montgomery County offenses are not victim counts. Missing records do not mean no risk, and these sources do not establish campus-police coverage. Source details and disclaimers.
Your result explains its evidence basis, coverage and dates. Explore the activity index and category breakdown alongside the arrival and check-in plan you make with your Crew.
Invite your Crew
A Crew is the group chat for the outing. Set it up once and reuse it every weekend.
- 1Open Crews and tap +. The dialog says Create Group.
- 2Name the group, for example Friday at the Lantern.
- 3Tap Create to open the Crew, then open its member controls.
- 4Use Invite from contacts to send invitations to friends.
Friends invited from contacts choose Accept before becoming members. Check who has actually joined before relying on the group, and agree on who will check in with whom.
Then put the plan in the chat: where, when, who is driving, the backup meeting spot. Want help choosing? Use Plan It to propose options and let the Crew vote. More on that in planning outings with friends.
Transit
How you get there changes which risks matter. Where incident data is available, read both the Personal and Auto categories: physical risk around people and risk to vehicles need different plans. These are area activity indices, not your individual odds. Use them for your actual trip instead of picking a mode by habit.
Every walk counts: bus stop to venue, parking spot to venue, and the same walks on the way back. Late return trips often look different from the arrival.
If you drive, think about where the car sits for hours. If auto activity is high near the venue, a different lot or a ride may make sense.
When personal activity is elevated and the alternative is a long or isolated walk, weigh a rideshare pickup and dropoff near the entrance. If you take the bus, check the final stop and walk to the venue. If you drive, check the parking spot and that walk too. Check the return trip for the hour you expect to leave, not just the arrival.
No mode is safe everywhere. Choose a visible meeting and pickup point, travel together on the walking segments, and agree on a backup if the last bus, your parking plan, or a ride falls through.
Use the Personal activity index alongside your trip context, who is walking alone, and the walk routes you can review in the app. Your report explains how to interpret its indices.
Check in often
The habit that works: short, regular updates in the Crew chat. Arrived. Moving to the second spot. Leaving in 20.
Location sharing on the Map is per Crew and optional. You turn it on for the groups you choose, and it depends on your phone's location permissions. See live location and check-ins.
Flare is for urgent help, not routine updates. It shares your current position and alerts your Crew. It does not replace 911, does not dispatch police, and alerts can be delayed by phones and networks.
Everyone looks out for each other. If someone misses a check-in, message or call them directly and follow your plan. In an emergency, contact local emergency services.
Check in when you're home
The night ends when the last person says so. Send an explicit message when you walk in the door.
- 1Text the Crew: Home.
- 2Everyone reads, reacts, or replies so the sender knows it landed.
- 3Before bed or moving on, confirm the whole Crew is home.
- 4Someone missing? Message, then call. Keep going until you hear back.
A dot disappearing from the map, or a Flare being ended, does not mean someone is home safe. Get an explicit confirmation in chat rather than inferring it from location. This is a human habit, and it works because everyone does it.

How do I check an address before going out?
Enter the venue or street address in Crew’s lookup, review the local activity context and plan your arrival. Use the guide to coordinate transport, check-ins and getting home with your friends.
Can I check a venue as well as a rental?
Yes. Use a venue’s street address in the neighborhood safety check. For housing decisions, the vacation rental and apartment rental checks provide dedicated starting points.
How do I use an address report to plan my arrival?
Review the Personal and Auto activity categories, the time you expect to arrive, your parking or transit stop, and the walking segment to the entrance. Agree on a meeting point and check-in plan with your Crew.
